Health Blog!

Welcome students to our class blog. We will be using this space for class discussions to examine, evaluate, and share knowledge. Discussions provide opportunities for students to think critically on the topics we will be learning about in Health class. Concepts, assignments, and readings will be used as the basis for our discussions to create a positive learning community in which students are willing to share their ideas and to accept constructive criticism from their peers.

Assignment one: Read section 27.3 of the online Biology book. Answer the following questions and provide constructive feedback to at least three other learners.

1. Explain why homeostasis is important to your body's functioning.
2. Give three examples of ways your skin helps maintain homeostasis in your body.
3. Explain one way that your body maintains a constant temperature while outside on a cold day.

  1. 1. Explain why homeostasis is important to your body's functioning.
Homeostasis controls everything. It regulates and maintains an internal equilibrium in body. In this way the body is balanced in all it contains. It is needed to maintain an internal environment. For example it regulates blood sugar levels, blood temperature and water in your body.

    2. Give three examples of ways your skin helps maintain homeostasis in your body.
    Sweating, shivering and hair.
    3. Explain one way that your body maintains a constant temperature while outside on a cold day.
Our body normally maintains a temperature of 37°. On a hot day our body cools down by releasing heat trough our skin. For our body to be balanced and maintain a constant temperature we start sweating. Immediately the sweat would evaporate cooling us down.

  2. 1:
Homeostasis is important in our body funtioning because we, as all living organisms; need to have an stable internal environment to function normally. If we do not have homeostasis our tissues would not be able to survive, as a result; we would die.
    2:
Three examples of how our skin helps maintain homeostasis in our body are:by shivering, by sweating, and when the hairs on the skin lie flat to prevent heat from being trapped between hairs.
    3:
One way that our body maintains a constant temperature while outside on a cold day is by the way mitochondria converts fat into heat energy which increases the temperature of all cells in the body.
